Have You Seen Your Spiritual X-Ray?

Have you ever seen your kidneys? Or your liver? Or your gallbladder? Probably not. Yet you know you have them, right? Why? Because someone credible told you—or because a doctor showed you an X-ray and you believed what you were seeing.

In other words, you’re confident in the reality of something you possess but you’ve never physically seen because you saw your x-ray.

The same principle applies spiritually. Did you know you have a spiritual X-ray?

Throughout many of his letters, the Apostle Paul repeatedly describes what it means to be in Christ—who we are, what we now possess, and how we are meant to live because of our union with Him. Taken together, these truths form what we might call our “in Christ realities.”

Another way to say it is this: what you see Jesus doing in the four Gospels is a picture of who you are in the spirit. His life doesn’t just reveal His identity; it reveals ours because we are united with Him.

Let’s take a few of these “In Christ” statements so we can discover who we are and what we are truly capable of.

  • In Christ, I am a new creation
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
    — 2 Corinthians 5:17
  • In Christ, I am made righteous
“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
    — 2 Corinthians 5:21
  • In Christ, I am fully accepted
“To the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.”
    — Ephesians 1:6 (NKJV: “accepted in the Beloved.”
  • In Christ, I am free from condemnation
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
    — Romans 8:1
  • In Christ, I can do all things through Him
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
    — Philippians 4:13
  • In Christ, I am raised and seated with Him

“And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”

— Ephesians 2:6

Did you see all that? That is your spiritual X-ray—a picture of who you really are and what you are truly capable of in Christ.

Understanding this matters because the natural and spiritual realms operate differently. In the natural, my kidneys function whether I understand them or not, but spiritually, the mind plays a vital role in walking out who we are in Christ. What is already true in our spirit must be received in our thinking before it can be lived out in our daily lives.

For example, for the first 21 years of my life, I struggled deeply with insecurity and people-pleasing—even though I had been “in Christ” since the age of seven. That insecurity kept me from accepting myself and eventually led to a deep depression. I felt like no matter what I did, I couldn’t get the approval I so desperately wanted from others.

I longed to be accepted, but it always felt just out of reach.

Then one day, as I was praying and reading Ephesians 1:6, which says that God has made us accepted in the Beloved, something shifted. As I prayed, I saw—what I can only describe as in my mind’s eye—the throne room of heaven, and I sensed how genuinely pleased the Father was with me. At the same time, I received a deep, intuitive knowing that God had made me exactly the way He intended to.

That’s what Ephesians 1:6 declares: we have been made accepted in the Beloved. That meant all my quirks, my personality, and even the things I had always disliked about myself were not mistakes. God loved them—because He designed them.

In that moment, I saw clearly that in Christ, I was exactly who God wanted me to be. And I realized something freeing: if some people didn’t like me, their issue wasn’t really with me—it was with God, because He’s the One who made me the way I am.

Instantly, I was set free. For the first time in 21 years, I no longer lived for the approval of others. I still wanted people to like me, but I no longer needed it. My Father loved me. I knew He had a good plan for my life, that His favor was on me, and that He would lead me to the right people and the right places—those that truly fit who He created me to be.

I went from insecure to bold. I went from being afraid to talk to people to sharing freely and confidently. I began to take risks, stepping into what God had placed in my heart, because I knew my heavenly Father would back me as I responded to His leading.

All of this happened because I saw my spiritual X-ray. When I finally saw who I really was in Christ, I was transformed. And I believe the same thing will happen for you when you see yours. I want to help you do this in two ways:

  • First, I’m including a link to a teaching series I shared at Grace Life Church called New Creation Realities. This series focuses on who you are in Christ. As you hear the Word and begin to see everything that is already true of you—everything revealed in your spiritual X-ray—I believe you will be changed from the inside out. Here is the link to this series.
  • Second, I’m praying over you the prayer the Apostle Paul prayed in Ephesians 1:18—that the eyes of your understanding would be enlightened, flooded with light, so that you can truly see your calling and your inheritance in Christ. The Holy Spirit is like the doctor who reveals the X-ray. I can present the truth, but I can’t argue you into it—and I can’t see it for you. Only the Spirit of God can open your eyes to what is already true.

I hope this article has encouraged you!  I’m believing you receive revelation so you can walk in your true identity.
