The Power of Perspective

Did you know you can make God bigger? You may be thinking, “How do I make the the infinite God who can measure the heavens with the span of his hand bigger?” Let’s take a look at Psalms 34:3 and find out.

Oh, magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His name together.

According to this verse we magnify or enlarge God by exalting or putting our focus on Him above everything else going on in our life. For example, when we are sick and choose to focus on His promises of healing and confess them no matter how much our body is screaming at us we are sick, we are magnifying God. This is the highest form of faith because we are having to base our relationship on truth and not circumstances. As we do this and maintain an attitude of faith, healing begins to invade our body and our experience of God becomes greater than our previous condition.

David made a choice to magnify God when he fought Goliath. Goliath, was literally twice David’s size and a trained warrior from his youth. He was so intimidating the rest of the Israeli army hid from him. David, however, had a different perspective. While everyone else was hiding, David said, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine?” Circumcision was a sign of a covenant with God. David realized Goliath didn’t have the covenant with God that David did. By making this statement, David elevated his belief in God’s promises of protection above the power of the great giant. This decision to magnify God before his victory was the key for David to walk in victory!

A magnifying glass works because it focuses light that passes through a lens. This causes the object being viewed to appear larger than it is without being viewed with the magnifying glass. Just like when using a magnifying glass to view an object, we have the choice as to how we view the problems in our lives. We can choose to see our problems through the lens of God’s greatness or choose to see God through the lens of our problems. If we choose to see the problems through God’s greatness, He is magnified and the problems shrink before our eyes.

As we learn to intentionally focus on and magnify God our perceptions change. Like David, we can magnify God and when everyone else sees a giant that is too big to defeat, we can see him as too big to miss! Make a choice to magnify God today! Ask the Holy Spirit to give you His perspective on every challenge you are facing! As you do, prepare to experience break-through!
