Did you know that your life is poetry that God is writing? Ephesians 2:10 verifies this as it says:
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
The Greek word for workmanship is poiēma. We get the word poem from this word. This mean our lives are God’s poetry. They are supposed to be filled with His beauty and wonder and should be like a poetic masterpiece that others can read. That’s a radical thought and also brings up an important question. If our lives are supposed to be a poetic masterpiece, how do we explain the sickness, hardship, and overall craziness of the last couple of years. Did God cause these things to happen and write them into His plan for us?
Absolutely not! God is good and only does good. Satan is the author of confusion and God is the author of peace. Satan has literally tried to spray-paint over God’s poetic plan of beauty and wonder with spiritual graffiti over the last two years. He’s tried to ruin God’s masterpiece by spray-painting all over it so we can’t read what God is writing!
The good news is God has a way for us to combat Satan’s attacks. This plan is contained in Ephesians 2:8. This verse says we are saved by grace through faith. Grace is God’s unmerited favor. That is God’s part. All of God’s promises which include salvation, protection, healing, and prosperity are made available by grace. We don’t have to work for them or earn them in any way. They are a free gift. All we have to do is believe and receive. This is faith. That is our part. In order to receive the promises and experience God’s poetic plan for our lives, we must put faith in God’s grace. When we believe and receive, we combat the spiritual graffiti Satan is trying to draw all over God’s poetic masterpiece for our lives.
An example of this in the scripture is contained in Mark 4:35-41. In the story, Jesus put His disciples in a boat and told them to go the other side of the lake. They were called to go the other side by His grace. They were in the boat and in the plan of God. All of a sudden, however, Satan sent a storm into their life. He tried to rewrite the ending of God’s story, but the storm he sent didn’t change God’s plan.
As the boat started filling with water the disciples panicked. They asked Jesus if He cared if they were perishing. This is the same question many people have asked God over the last couple of years. How did Jesus respond?Jesus put faith in the word of God, which was to go to the other side. He then rebuked the storm. He erased Satan’s spiritual graffiti with one action of faith and He and the disciples made it to the other side. This is the poem we get to read 2,000 years later. It’s beautiful when we consider the wonder and glory of what Jesus accomplished that day.
God wants us to learn to follow His plan and declare the grace promises of the Bible over our lives. This is how God writes His poetic masterpiece over our lives. Psalm 119:89 says Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven. God’s word over our lives is settled in heaven. That’s grace! The key to getting it settled in earth is when we declare it out of our mouths! That’s faith! As we declare His word, we establish God’s plan and if Satan tries to desecrate God’s masterpiece, all we need to do is take our authority over him and erase his spiritual graffiti.
